Information You Provide
Search entries
Type something into a search widget and it leaves this site at once. The query goes straight to the outside company that runs that tool. From there, that company's own privacy policy and terms take over. Its rules then decide how the query is handled and what happens to anything you typed along with it.
Messages
Reach out by email and the basics travel with your message. That usually means a name, an email address, and whatever text you wrote. Hold back anything heavier. Booking numbers, ID scans, and similar sensitive papers should stay off the screen unless your message truly needs them.
Automatic Technical Data
Sites collect technical data without anyone lifting a finger. This one is no different. Device type, browser type, and an approximate location drawn from your IP address are typical. So are the page that brought you here, the pages you viewed, and when you visited. Service providers use this material to keep the site running, guard it against abuse, and make it better over time.
Cookies
Cookies and similar tools do quiet work behind the scenes. They can recall your preferences, count traffic, support advertising, or help third-party tools load the way they should. Your browser gives you a say here. Most offer settings that block or limit cookies. A few site features may behave differently once you do.
How Information Is Used
Running this site takes a few practical things. Messages get answered. Errors get diagnosed. Aggregate usage is studied, misuse is blocked, and legal duties are honored. One thing worth clearing up: this site is not the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office. Nothing you do here creates or changes a government arrest record. Those live with the county. To request one, follow the county's own process under Michigan FOIA, MCL 15.231 et seq.
Linked Sites Have Their Own Rules
Outbound links are everywhere on a site like this. The KCSO Inmate Inquiry, the county FOIA page, MDOC OTIS, and various court resources all sit on independent websites. Each one sets its own terms. Their content, uptime, security, and privacy practices are theirs alone. So read their notices first. Never hand over personal details until you know whose hands they land in.
Who May Receive Information
A few outside parties help keep the lights on. Hosting providers, search partners, analytics services, ad networks, and operational vendors may all process information as part of running the site. There are also legal reasons information can leave this building, so to speak. A lawful subpoena counts. So does a court order, any other valid legal process, or a genuine need to protect rights, safety, or the service itself.
Security Limits
Reasonable safeguards are in place for a small information site. That honesty matters, though. No method of sending or storing data online is fully secure. So keep sensitive details out of messages. When a records request needs personal documentation, skip the middleman and use the official record custodian's protected process instead.
Users Under 18
Kids under 18 are not the audience here. We make no effort to gather their personal details, and nothing on the site asks for them. Still, if you think a child shared personal information with us somehow, tell us. We will look into it right away.
Your Information Choices
Information you gave this site directly stays in your control, up to a point. You can ask what we hold, request a correction, or ask that we delete it, within legal and practical limits. Records held elsewhere are a different matter. We cannot edit anything kept by the KCSO, a city department, MDOC, a court, a search partner, or any other outside service. For those, go straight to the custodian that maintains the records.
